Early morning light reflecting off the lake. Many nests were sighted around the banks of the lake at various levels of incubation. With a little patience the coot lifts revealing the eggs. After the third day the chicks left the nest and started to swim.Always a dash to get the food first. What at first looks like an innocent hand over of food...(see next image)...can sometimes become a brutal attack...(see next image)...sustained attack on its own chickOccasionally the odd chick will get distracted before rejoining the group.Coots in flight run across water, panning at speed with some foreground foliage bokehIn other sections of the lake some of the coot chicks were bigger having hatched earlier.Territorial fighting becomes more intense during egg laying and hatching.
